It is with pleasure that I welcome you to beautiful Daytona Beach, Florida, USA for the 2023 Veteran Fencing World Championships. We all look forward to our 24 veteran events for men and women in individual and team competitions spanning three age groups.

It is a testament to the enduring and enriching quality of fencing that we have such incredibly athletic and enthusiastic athletes of all ages, and the veterans’ group is no exception. Ours is truly a lifelong sport, including and embracing everyone drawn to the excitement and passion of what it means to be a fencer. In particular, the Veteran Fencing World Championships provides an opportunity not only for excellent and thrilling competition, but also to celebrate our global fencing family and friends, old and new.

We applaud the excellent organisation and efforts of USA Fencing in hosting this important and last major event of the 2022-2023 FIE competition season. Further, we appreciate the support of the coaches, staff, volunteers, fans and officials in making the Championships possible.

As Mayor, and on behalf of the City Commission, it is my pleasure to welcome the 2023 Veteran Fencing World Championships to the City of Daytona Beach.

The competition, which will feature the best fencers age 50 and older from more than 50 nations, will be the first FIE (International Fencing Federation) event held in the United States since the pandemic.

Set against balmy breezes and anchored by 23 miles of clean, white sand, Daytona Beach is known as "the World's Most Famous Beach." Vacationers have been flocking to our beach for more than a century. In addition to our rich history, we have an incredible future. Our beachside incorporates a mix of family and resort accommodations, restaurants, cultural activities, and entertainment venues for people of all ages. On the mainland, our downtown is a growing, thriving community of trendy eateries, specialty shops, museums, signature performing arts centers and a host of recreational facilities.
